Description

  • Are you interested in consulting or banking?
  • How can you best equip yourself to succeed?

In an informal session Dr Anthony Freeling and Laurel Powers-Freeling will share their wealth of knowledge about consulting and banking (and McKinsey in particular), offer an insight into how to succeed in these competitive fields, and be on hand to answer questions.

This event is for any Hughes Hall students who are considering careers in banking or consulting, not only those doing business degrees.

Refreshments will be provided.

Dr Anthony Freeling
Dr Freeling spent eighteen years of his career working at McKinsey & Company in the UK, where he was a Senior Partner, leading its Marketing and Sales Practice across Europe. This gave him extensive experience in counselling Chief Executive Officers and facilitating collective and strategic decision-making. More recently he has also worked as an independent consultant advising a range of companies, in areas such as law and global marketing services.

A recognised authority on marketing, Anthony Freeling published Agile Marketing in 2011. He is a Director of Ashridge Strategic Management Centre, and was Research Director of the Coca-Cola Retailing Research Councils for Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Market Leader, the journal of the Marketing Society.

Dr Freeling is also a trustee of the PHG Foundation, an acknowledged founder of the public health genomics movement. He was previously a trustee of UnLtd for 9 years, a charity that is the largest supporter of social entrepreneurs in the UK and offers the largest such network in the world.

Laurel Powers-Freeling
Laurel Powers-Freeling has degrees from Columbia University and the Sloane School of Management at MIT. She began her career at McKinsey and Morgan Stanley, and thereafter held senior roles at Prudential Corp, Lloyds Bank Group and American Express. She has been an Executive Director on two FTSE 100 boards in her career, including Marks & Spencer, the leading UK retailer, and served on the Court (Board) of the Bank of England.

Laurel is currently Chairman of Uber UK, Chairman of Sumitomo Mitsui Bank Europe, Senior Independent Director of Atom Bank and, in Cambridge, is the Chairman of Cambridge University Health Partners, the Academic Health Science Centre umbrella for activities on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Laurel and Anthony have two awesome grown-up daughters in disruptive tech jobs.
